Whaat do I need when buying a gun, a license?

Hi, I want to go buy a Glock 22 or glock 31 this week, but before I do that, what must I get beofre I go buy it, must I have a gun license first, or can I just go buy it, and will they turn it in to me when I pay there? What are the procedures?
